Missed Opportunity

Missed Opportunity

As a relatively new coach, I initially hesitated to join ICF Iowa. I mistakenly believed that I needed to have my coaching fully established before becoming a member. Looking back, I now realize I missed a significant opportunity for learning and growth by not engaging with this community sooner. I waited until I had earned my ACC credential, unaware of the invaluable support and development that comes from connecting with fellow coaches. This delay was definitely a missed opportunity in my personal and professional journey.

Now, just over five years later, I can wholeheartedly say that the relationships I've cultivated within ICF Iowa have been incredible. This group has provided both personal encouragement and professional challenges, prompting me to evolve in my coaching approach. My involvement in various board positions has also allowed me to connect with numerous members across the state. It's always inspiring to see the diverse individuals drawn to coaching and the wide range of coaching specializations represented in our community. The collective experience, compassion, and expertise within our ICF Iowa network are truly remarkable, offering a wealth of support for those seeking to move forward and achieve their goals.

Recently, I've had the pleasure of partnering on a paid facilitation with a fellow ICF Iowa coach, which has been fantastic! Melissa Johnson and I co-facilitated some workshops in Des Moines. This collaboration speaks volumes about the friendships and trust fostered through our shared time serving on the board over the past few years. Despite our different styles, we complement each other well in a co-facilitation setting. Would we have pursued such an opportunity without our prior board experience together? I sincerely doubt it.

This experience underscores a valuable lesson: you never know where or how engaging with your community and embracing opportunities to serve might lead in the future. Are you ready to open the door to the possibilities that lie ahead?
