When I think of St. Patrick’s Day, I think of my Irish Grandfather. Until he passed at 95, he spoke with a full Irish brogue, played an accordion and knew how to dance an Irish jig.
When he was 14 years old, my grandfather boarded a ship and immigrated from Ireland to the US by himself. I remember hearing stories of his tumultuous journey in steerage class. Once the ship had arrived in New York, he stayed on the ship, in very poor conditions, for three days until they unloaded and processed the first-class passengers.
He was only 14 years old! He came to this country with very little and made a place for himself as a respected Iowa farmer until his passing. He was an amazing man of faith, courage, and integrity. When I celebrate his legacy on St. Patrick’s Day, I think of his bravery and his determination to seek his dreams.
These are also qualities I see in so many Coaches. We step into our calling with a desire to support others. We follow our passions with determination, perseverance, and heart.
I also see these attributes in the work we do. We help others step bravely into what they desire for their lives – at work and at home. We encourage our clients to take the steps, have the conversations, initiate the actions, to move forward – even when frightening. All the while, we help them show up and build their legacy.
So, as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, remember the legacy you are leaving.
And as you travel…..
May good luck be with you wherever you go,
May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow.
May your days be many and your troubles be few,
May all God's blessings descend upon you,
May peace be within you, May your heart be strong,
May you find what you're seeking, following the road you are on!
Sincerely,
